AN ECM Strategy as a Foundation
Information is the lifeblood of any organisation. The management of information is crucial to the strategic goals of an organisation and as such should command the attention of executive management.
An ECM strategy assists the organisation with planning to manage this valuable resource. Most organizations grapple with the issues related to ECM – organisations know that they could (and should) do more with the information assets they manage but technology alone does not provide the answer. An ECM strategy brings together the important elements of people, process, information and technology providing a clear roadmap to make the organisation more efficient and to comply with standards, legal and administrative guidelines.
Engineering Informatics has developed a proprietary methodology, and assists clients in any or all of the following phases of the ECM lifecycle:
| 1. Analysis of the current state of ECM |
What do we have and where are our problems? |
2. Definition of the desired state |
Where do we want to be; given our limitations? |
| 3. Designing a transition roadmap | How are we going to get to the desired state? |
| 4. Compiling an ECM Business case | How do we ensure business buy-in? |
| 5. Evaluating suitable technology | What technology do we have or need to fulfil the desired state? |
| 6. Implementing the Roadmap | Ensuring technology and people delivers the required results. |
The first five steps are technology and product independent, and ensure that ECM functionality is designed and selected based on real business reasons, rather than from a technology product perspective.
Only the last step involves the implementation of a technology, and Engineering Informatics is adept at assisting clients with the project management and implementation of a number of different ECM technologies.
Our practical experience of more than over 150 successful ECM projects, linked with our own research and partnerships enhanced specific technology neutralcapabilities in:
